My experience is that the PL tomatoes have been more robust and less prone to disease. Depending on the variety, some are not as productive, but that is not always the rule. And as Karen and Carolyn mentioned, some of the best tasting tomates are PL.

Last year I grew Sweet Sue (PL) dwarf. Collected my own seeds.
Sweet Sue (PL) got crossed with unknown variety (I assume). The seedling was PL. The tomato shape and color remained the same as original. I decided to plant it in ground to get more fruits. It grew about 5 feet tall and produced (so far) 31 pounds of tomatoes. My most productive plant of all this year. ??? go figure
